Senenator Gordon Order Call to increase SSS pension

Senator Gordon insisted the Social Security System (SSS) not to break its vow to add Php 1,000 on the monthly pension of their members starting January 2017.

“SSS pensioners must have their increase. (The) new SSS board agreed to increase them by P 1,000. They must not renege on that agreement”

 “The board must also show their efficiency to collect dues and maximize their assets so they can increase their life Government and private sectors must generate more jobs and FDI,” Gordon stated via SMS.

Gordon is the current chair of the Senate committee on government corporations and public enterprises.

The Php 2,000 increase in the members’ pension is already in Malacañang. SSS Chairman Amado Valdez said that they are only waiting for Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s approval for the said request.

The request is now on the stage of reviewing by the President’s economic team. The plan of splitting the Php 2,000 into two Php 1,000 payments is being considered by the team. This is what Valdez stated over dzMM.

Before going on a Christmas break, Gordon requested the SSS provide the members even just half of the proposed increase. SSS agreed to grant this Php 1,000 increase according to Gordon.

Meanwhile, Senate President Koko Pimentel agreed with the President’s economic team to carefully study the proposal first. The proposed Php 2,000 increase could become an opportunity for the SSS to get bankrupt.

According to Valdez, SSS’s current funds can last up to 2042. But if the proposed Php 1,000 increase gets completely approved, the funds will only last up to 2032.

Valdez also stated that the President’s economic team is now looking for alternatives and other schemes to extend the SSS fund’s life once the Php 2,000 increase is fully approved.
